Who we are

This website — zs1zz.co.za — is operated by Charl Marais (ZS1ZZ) on behalf of the Cape Town Amateur Radio Centre (CTARC, ZS1CT), based in Wynberg, Cape Town, South Africa. The platform provides the Radio Amateur Examination (RAE) course for South African amateur radio candidates.

Cookies

This site uses essential session cookies only. These are small text files stored on your device that keep you logged in while you browse the course material.

Because we use only functionally essential cookies, explicit consent is not strictly required under South Africa's POPIA Act. The notice on our landing page is provided as a courtesy and in the spirit of transparency.

Blog interaction data

When you like a blog post, a one-way cryptographic hash (SHA-256) of your IP address is stored in our database solely to prevent duplicate likes. This hash cannot be reversed to identify you — your raw IP address is never stored. This data is used for no purpose other than deduplication and is not shared with any third party. This processing is carried out on the basis of our legitimate interest in maintaining the integrity of site interaction counts, as permitted under POPIA section 11(1)(f).

Student registration data

When you register for the RAE course, we collect the following personal information:

Why we collect it: Solely for RAE course administration — to manage your enrolment, send you course access details, and communicate exam-related information.

Who sees it: Only the course administrator (ZS1ZZ) and CTARC club officials involved in running the RAE course. Your data is never sold, rented, or shared with any third party.

How long we keep it: Registration records are retained for a reasonable period after your exam sitting for administrative purposes, after which they may be archived or deleted.

Where it is stored: On a secured South African web server hosted by Afrihost, protected by HTTPS encryption and access-controlled admin systems.
